The Jefferson County Department of Health is seeking Senior Nutrition Consultants to lead, organize, and oversee staff delivering nutrition and diet consultation services to patients, professional staff, and community groups. These individuals are responsible for ensuring that the clinic area runs efficiently and that the work performed within the unit meets all program requirements, policies, and procedures. Individuals in this classification are responsible for ensuring their staff maintains a level of professional development and engagement. They conduct and participate in training activities with this in mind. Individuals in this job class are also responsible for general personnel management. Their work is performed under administrative supervision of the Health Center Administrator and Nutrition Coordinator and is reviewed through reports, audits, and results obtained.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Option A:
Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
Licensure by the Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietetic/Nutrition Practice OR valid license to practice Dietetics/Nutrition from another state with requirement to obtain Alabama licensure within 90 days of hire.
Experience working as a Nutrition Consultant within the merit system.
Option B:
Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
Licensure by the Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietetic/Nutrition Practice OR valid license to practice Dietetics/Nutrition from another state with requirement to obtain Alabama licensure within 90 days of hire.
Experience providing nutrition guidance to clients/program participants in health-related environments (i.e., interpreting Federal and State guidelines, policies, and/or procedures; providing feedback to colleagues; implementing new processes).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by the Jefferson County Department of Health. These qualifications may be considered by the Health Department when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Master's degree in Public Health or related field.
Supervision of employees providing nutrition guidance to clients/program participants in health-related environments (e.g., interpreting Federal and State guidelines, policies, and/or procedures; providing feedback to staff; implementing new processes).
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Ensures clinic runs efficiently and per guidelines by monitoring and directing client flow, providing technical assistance, updating staff on new directives, tracking program activities, and preparing reports.
Participates in the education and training of the general public, patients, clients, and/or their families.
Procures and/or manages inventory (i.e., supplies and equipment) to ensure the products and services are available to meet the operational needs of each department.
Maintains laboratory according to federal guidelines.
Engages in activities designed to ensure professional development, awareness of developments in the field, and knowledge of relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and/or guidelines.
Oversees the internal and external (e.g., State, Federal) audit process to ensure program guideline compliance. program activities, and preparing reports.
Interviews, councils, and provides instruction to clients, including answering client questions.
Prescribes and/or provides supplies to eligible clients.
Determines client program eligibility.
Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
Manages time, attendance, leave processes, and submission of payroll information.
Conducts training to provide knowledge and understanding of work processes to ensure compliance with procedures and standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job is primarily sedentary involving sitting for long periods of time, but may involve occasional walking or standing for brief periods. May involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in an office setting within medical or healthcare facilities. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc. Work involves use of medical tools and equipment necessary for the care and/or diagnosis of healthcare patients.EEO STATEMENT:
